Our Tips for Hosting a Special and Stress-Free Birthday Party

August 29, 2023

We love celebrating birthdays at North Shore Children’s Museum. Our number one goal is to make sure our birthday kids have the party of their dreams and their grown-ups have an easy hosting experience from start to finish.

1. Keep set up simple

Our parties include private access to our beautiful, bright Party Room, located toward the back of the museum and a party host to help with set up and clean up.

We want you to experience the party with your child! We allow set up 15 minutes before the party, then you’ll have 1 hour and 15 minutes to explore our 15 diverse exhibits with your guests, before sitting down in our Party Room for a meal and birthday treats for the remaining 45 minutes.

NSCM is FULL of beautiful murals from local artists, lively lights, and fun exhibit features. We encourage visitors to leave complex decorations at home so they can enjoy an easy set up and clean up.

2. Send invitations early

We love when our Party Room is full and lively! The Party Room can comfortably fit 40 adults/children, with table seating for up to 27 at our three 8-foot brand-new tables.

Unlike some birthday party facilities, we offer full museum rentals for $425! This gives you and your guests private access to all 15 exhibits and use of the Party Room. Starting in November, we will offer these Private Parties on Fridays, 4pm-6pm and Sundays, 10am-12pm. Having the museum all to yourself is a unique and memorable experience!

At a lower price point of $350, we offer another excellent option to host a Semi-Private Party, which gives you private access to the Party Room and access to all 15 exhibits. The public will also be enjoying the exhibits, but we lower museum capacity during Semi-Private parties to ensure it is never too crowded for you and your party guests. Semi-Private Parties are offered on Saturdays, 12pm-2pm.

All parties include admission for up to 40 adults/children. Send your invitations early to ensure all of your child’s favorite people can join!

3. Let someone else do the cooking!

All our party time options conveniently fall near lunch or dinner time, allowing you the easy option to bring in pizza or other food options to your event. We have partnered with several local restaurants to provide 10% off your catering order. Check out Breaking Grounds for breakfast pastries or lunch sandwiches, Gallo Nero for pizza, Pete’s A Place for party pizzas, and Santoros for pizza or meals like chicken fingers and fries!

4. Shop at NSCM!

Encourage guests to visit our on-site gift shop, 2 Donkey’s Toy Shop for birthday gifts prior to the party! Full of educational and fun toys for children ages 2-10, 2 Donkey’s at NSCM has something for every kiddo – with many items themed to match our exhibits. Or, consider asking guests to purchase a NSCM gift certificate for your child, available at our front desk in any amount.

5. Get ready to have fun!

Hosting a party at a venue like North Shore Children’s Museum allows you to enjoy the party and your child, rather than stressing about the many details involved with hosting a party at home. The value is tremendous, with regular admission for 40 people costing $480 – and that’s without any Party Room access! You will leave with sore cheeks from smiling, full tummies from our delicious restaurant partners, and best part – a clean house!
